Honoré de Balzac, a French novelist and playwright who contributed around 100 novels and plays to the canon of world literature throughout the 19th century, is honored in The Writers Edition 2013. Inspired by the elegance of Balzac and the Dandyism of the 19th century, the barrel's expensive black resin and grey lacquer, with its subtle guilloché detail, alludes to the classic cutaway that well-mannered Parisian gentlemen prefer. Although the pen's large design reflects Balzac's audacious stature, the author's walking cane is symbolized by the blue lacquered clip on top of the pen. The rings with platinum and gold coatings allude to the several classes that arose in early 19th-century French society; these classes are frequently a major issue in Balzac's writings.
